Calathea is a post-hardcore/screamo band from Bizkaia, formed during the pandemic in 2021.
After releasing their first EP, Cries From The Heart, in 2022, they toured throughout Euskal Herria, the Iberian Peninsula, and France. In 2024, they released the singles Tears and Gure Hilobia (feat. Goio from Víbora).
Their sound is characterized by post-hardcore with touches of post-rock, post-metal, and hardcore, influenced by bands like Touché Amoré, Deafheaven, Viva Belgrado, and Boneflower.
Flowers & Knives balances the rage of five post-hardcore tracks with the calm of two interludes that serve as bridges between songs. These seven tracks are full of emotive chords and screams, a rhythmic structure that holds everything together with fast and heavy beats, atmospheric passages, and guitar leads that cry.
The lyrics delve into introspection, exploring sadness, pain, nostalgia, loss, joy, and the duality of life.
The album was recorded and mixed by Xanpe and Hodei G. Mendiguren, and mastered by Xanpe at Koba Studio. It also includes collaborations from Eric from Boneflower and Goio from Víbora.
